A former Councillor representing Avu Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, Pascal Okoro, popularly known as Ajangwo, has threatened to pull down billboards and posters belonging to opposition political parties in the community.
Okoro made the remarks in a video currently trending online, where he declared that opposition political parties would not be allowed to operate in Avu.
He said: “No other political party will be allowed to operate in Avu. We are issuing an order that no posters of other political parties shall be displayed in Avu. Sharp is with us in this endeavour. I, Ajangwo, removed the AA poster. We only recognize Egbe in Avu.”
The statement has generated attention amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, with political parties and aspirants already intensifying their activities across Imo State.
“Egbe” is the nickname of Hon. Onyemaechi, who represents Owerri West State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is seeking the party’s ticket for a third term in the state legislature.
Okoro’s comments, particularly his reported threat to remove opposition campaign materials, have raised questions about political competition and the freedom of political parties to campaign in the area.
It remains unclear from the video whether the statement represents any official position of the APC or whether any formal directive has been issued by the relevant authorities concerning the display or removal of campaign materials in Avu.
