The Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide election has come to an end with the emergence of Senator John Azuka Mbata from Rivers State, as the newly elected President General of the Igbo social cultural group.
At an election held at the old government lodge Abakilike road Enugu State, on Friday, January ,10,2025, which happens to be the world headquarters of the organization,the cream of Igbo society including political juggernauts, prominent traditional rulers, Captains of industries, businessmen, and community leaders, resolved on a consensus for candidates for all positions including that of President General, the motion for the amendment of the constitution was moved by former Governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige.
In a brief address after his declaration by the Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo election committee Chairman Chief Ejiofor Onyia, the President General Sen. Mbata hinted that under his tenure that Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide will regain is prime position as a leading social cultural organization in the country, recalling that Igbo nation in 1930 built a college in Kano and thanked all delegates including prominent traditional rulers,.politicians and all who made him emerge as apex Igbo leader.
The Chairman South East Governor’s forum and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, in a statement congratulated Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo for the conduct of free, fair and transparent election, which he said has ushered a new dawn in the Igbo social cultural development. Adding that time has come when Igbos must have a homegrown solutions to their problems and not believing that their counterparts in other states should come and develop the area.
Furthermore Uzodimma appreciated the outgone President General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu for his wealth of experience in solidifying the organization within a short period of tenure, however stated that Igbos have a history and root, and are one of the best brands in the world.
Earlier in his speech the immediate past President General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu, noted that the leadership of the group is rotational from state that make up the organization, and that it is the turn of Rivers State to produce the President General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide.
The former National Vice Chairman South East of the People’s Democratic Party,PDP, also called for the one minute silent in honour of the departed President Generals of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo including Prof. Obiozor and Chief Iwuanyanwu.
While calling for proper accountability on the part of the new executives of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide, he said that by doing this, this is the only way Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo can be a role model for similar social cultural organization in the entire African continent.
Meanwhile the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has congratulated the newly elected President General of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide Sen. John Mbata.
Others dignitaries who attended the event include, Governor Peter Mbah,(Enugu), Governor Chukwuma Soludo,(Anambra), Governor Alex Otti,(Abia),Ex-Imo Governor Ikedi Ohakim, Sen. Victor Umeh,(Anambra Central), Serving and non serving National Assembly members, Captains of industries, Traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, among others too numerous to mention a few.
