Sports lovers from all walks of life in Imo State converged at Amaraku Secondary School Field in Isiala Mbano of the State, to witness the finals of Mbano football tournament sponsored by Engr. Chizitere Ahubelem, last weekend.
Engr. Ahubelem speaking with IKORO OKIGWE Newspaper highlighted that the essence of the tournament is to restore peace and unity in the two clans,also to reduce youth restiveness.
All teams that participated at the tournament went home with a consolation price, as the sponsor donated N1m for the first position, N500,000 for the second position and N250,000 for the third position.
Former Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Dan Ogu who stormed the event with his entourage, described Ahubelem as an illustrious son who heart the desires of his people. While encouraging him to continue to maintain love, and also his good deeds for the society at large.
Chairman Local Organizing Committee Comr. Chukwuemeka Chikere, said the tournament started on March,1 with finals fixed for Easter Sunday March 31, 2024. He affirmed that the sponsor provided the kits, jersey, goalpost net and all materials,saying ‘Engr. Ahubelem showing such love for his locality spending so much, shows that he is truly out to bring positive development for us”. He said.
The finals played by Isiala Mbano (Osu Owerre ward 2) vs Ehime Mbano (Umunomo), ended draw full time, as Isiala Mbano lifted the cup of the tournament via penalty shootout.
