Umuihi Ancient Kingdom in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, is set to host the Mbumuzo 2026 cultural celebration from August 24 to 27, 2026, in a four-day programme designed to promote the community’s cultural heritage, unity and environmental consciousness.
Speaking with IKoro Okigwe on a telephone conversation the Prime Minister the ancient community Chief Ikechukwu Igwe stated that the theme of this year’s event is “Celebrating the Rhythm of Our Cultural Heritage,” availing that the event will bring together indigenes and residents of Umuihi for a series of traditional and community-based activities across the four days.
According to the programme released by the organisers, Day One, August 24 (Eke), will feature Oturu Nkwenkwe (Nkomonu) and activities at Eke Umuihi.
The second day, August 25 (Orie), will feature Mmacha Uzo (Otutuzo), with the organisers declaring that “all roads lead to Nkwo Ihitte.”
August 26 (Afor), the third day, has been designated for feasting (Ikpo Obia) and family celebrations, while the final day, August 27 (Nkwo), will feature Inu mmii ora and Ogboto.
Chief Igwe said as part of efforts to promote environmental responsibility, they are also holding the Mbumuzo 2026 Villages Cleanup Bonanza, under the theme “A Clean Village, A Proud Heritage, A Better Tomorrow.”
The cleanup campaign is aimed at encouraging villages to maintain clean surroundings, protect the environment and build healthier communities.
Cash prizes of ₦50,000, ₦30,000 and ₦20,000 have been announced for the first, second and third-place villages respectively.
The organisers said the initiative is anchored on the message: “Clean Today, Green Tomorrow. Together We Build a Healthier, Happier Umuihi!”
The Mbumuzo 2026 celebration is expected to combine cultural expression with community development, while encouraging Umuihi people to take pride in their heritage and environment.
“Our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Pride, Our Umuihi,” the organisers declared.
