The 42nd Commissioner of Police in the state described women as builders of stable and peaceful homes, noting that their contributions remain vital whether their husbands are present or absent due to the demands of police service.

CP Bosso urged police officers’ wives to see themselves as strong pillars behind the successes and achievements of their husbands, who serve as heads of their respective families. He described the theme “Give to Gain” as a divine principle, emphasizing that giving to others often brings blessings and rewards from God.

The event featured several resource persons who delivered lectures on important topics affecting women and the girl child. Barrister Mrs. Amaka spoke on the rights of the girl child and the need for justice and action for all women and girls, while Dr. (Mrs.) Celestina Njoku highlighted the importance of educating the girl child.

Also speaking, SP Princess Joy Nnaji, the Secretary of Imo POWA, delivered a lecture on self-hygiene and economic empowerment. She outlined the critical roles mothers—especially police officers’ wives—must play in ensuring proper upbringing of their children for a better society.

Princess Nnaji stressed that the future of the girl child largely depends on mothers, urging women to maintain high standards of personal and family hygiene for healthier homes and communities.

She also described the POWA Chairperson, Hajia Maryam Abdullahi Bosso, as a role model who has consistently encouraged officers’ wives to maintain healthy homes and responsible family life.

In her remarks, the POWA Chairperson, Hajia Maryam Bosso, thanked leaders and members of the association for organizing the International Women’s Day celebration. She noted that the event was designed to support and encourage the less privileged, especially during challenging times.

She called on members to continue supporting one another and their spouses to enhance professional performance in the police service.

According to her, the principle of “Giving to Gain” begins with caring for families and members through acts of charity, stressing that POWA remains one united family with LAPOWA and PWA.

A major highlight of the 2026 POWA International Women’s Day celebration was the empowerment of children of POWA, LAPOWA and PWA members in the Imo State Police Command, who were supported with food items and other welfare packages.
