Imo to Host South East Progressive Digital Media Summit 2026

The Imo State Government has announced plans to host the South East Progressive Digital Media Summit 2026, scheduled for Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12, 2026, in Owerri, the state capital.

The announcement was made on Monday during a joint press conference at the Government House, Owerri, by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic and Creative Media, in collaboration with representatives of all the South East states.

Speaking at the briefing, Hon. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Electronic and Creative Media and Coordinator of the Summit, said the event is being convened pursuant to a directive of the Presidency, following the successful hosting of the National Progressive Digital Media Summit held in August 2025 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, which was declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

According to him, the regional summit is designed as a zonal replication of the national engagement and will serve as a strategic platform to strengthen digital media coordination, promote responsible communication, and deepen progressive participation in governance and nation-building across the South East.

The summit will be formally declared open by Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, and is expected to attract APC Governors from the South East, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, members of the Federal Executive Council from the region, party leaders, and other prominent national figures.

Hon. Nwaogwugwu disclosed that the event will host over 1,000 participants, including journalists, bloggers, content creators, new media aides, policymakers, and industry leaders. Discussions will focus on emerging digital media trends and the role of new media in promoting national development, democratic values, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, as well as the policy agendas of Progressive Governors in the South East.

The theme of the summit is “The Critical Role of Digital Media in Enhancing National Integration of the South East.”

Proceedings of the summit will be broadcast on major national television networks and streamed live across multiple social media platforms, while further details on participation, accreditation, and programme structure will be announced in the coming days.
