Dr. Fabian Ihekweme has explained his decision to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the political platform to actualise his aspiration of becoming the next Senator representing Imo North Senatorial District, citing years of marginalisation and underrepresentation of the Okigwe Zone.

Ihekwueme popularly known as ‘Omu’ by political admirers, served as a one-time Commissioner in Imo State, and recently joined APGA last Thursday.

According to him, apart from Senators Emeka Echeruo, Ifeanyi Araraume and the late Ben Uwajumogu, the people of Okigwe Zone have largely been saddled with imposed representatives who neither emerged through the will of the people nor served their collective interests. He lamented that such individuals, rather than defending the zone, allegedly became political tools used to further marginalise Okigwe.

Dr. Ihekweme further alleged that a powerful and dangerous political cabal, backed by external forces outside Okigwe Zone, has continued to undermine democracy in the area by suppressing the true wishes of the people.

He declared that his entry into the race is a deliberate move to liberate Okigwe Zone from what he described as a long-standing political stranglehold.

He described APGA as the only political party in the South East with a clear ideology focused on Igbo unity, brotherhood and economic emancipation, anchored on the philosophy of “Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya.”

He noted that the legacy and spirit of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu remain the driving force of the party, adding that APGA represents the pride of the Igbo people and offers a better political future for Okigwe Zone.
