Hon. Major Emenike hails EWAMAC on Clean Environment, Recycling Innovation.
The Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Major Emenike, has expressed strong satisfaction with the operations of the Eastern Waste Management Company, EWAMAC, following a supervisory visit to the facility as part of the Ministry’s routine oversight of environmental sanitation and waste management services.
The Commissioner arrived at the EWAMAC premises with senior officials of the Ministry and was received by the Deputy Managing Director, the General Manager, and members of the management team. Management briefed him on the company’s mandate, ongoing operations, and recent improvements aimed at strengthening service delivery.
The visit focused on assessing operational efficiency, compliance with environmental standards, and the overall progress recorded by the agency. It also provided an opportunity for direct interaction with staff and on-the-spot evaluation of facilities and projects.
Addressing management and workers, Major Emenike praised the orderliness and cleanliness of the facility, noting that the impact of EWAMAC’s work is visible across the state. He described the environment as impressive and reflective of public feedback, adding that residents are already acknowledging the difference.
He commended the dedication of the workforce and expressed pride in the visible progress recorded so far. The Commissioner urged staff to remain disciplined, professional, and consistent, stressing that effective waste management is central to public health and environmental safety.
During a guided tour of the facility, the Commissioner visited key offices and operational units, where he received briefings on daily activities, challenges, and innovations introduced to improve efficiency.
A major highlight of the visit was the Recycling Unit, where the Commissioner inspected products manufactured from fully organic waste materials. Items such as pen holders and other reusable products, neatly produced and packaged by the department, drew particular interest. He described the initiative as a clear example of waste converted into value and applauded the effort as being in line with global standards in sustainable environmental management.
Major Emenike encouraged EWAMAC to expand its recycling operations and continue exploring innovative methods of transforming waste into useful products that can create economic value while protecting the environment.
The visit ended with the Commissioner reaffirming the Ministry’s support for EWAMAC and its mandate. He emphasized that teamwork, innovation, and accountability remain essential in the collective effort to achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for the state.
