A renowned medical consultant with Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, Dr. Stanley Ngoka has called on parents to beware of abuse of drugs, according to the medical practitioner abuse of drugs on both children and adult can lead to kidney failure.

Speaking with newsmen during the celebration of World Kidney day observed by practitioners in Owerri, recently with the theme ” Kidney Health for All – Advancing equitable access to care and optimal medication practice”.

He noted that the essence of the day is to sensitize people on the need to stay away from fake drugs and also not to abuse the use of drugs.

” Kidney disease may have no symptoms that’s how bad it is, sometimes it is hereditary. We have a challenge with how people administer drugs, we always tell them to be careful were they buy drugs”. He said

Dr. Ngoka, who is the unit Head of Nephrology and Renal Dialysis Unit, FTHO, hinted that the centre have made huge success in giving dialysis to patients who visit the centre,that people come as far as abroad, Lagos and other states to take dialysis at the Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri. While he called on FG to continue to assist the centre in making dialysis affordable to patients, according to the renowned professional the centre charges N35,000 for dialysis care.

Earlier during his address after the walk,the Chief Medical Director of Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri, Dr. Kingsely Achigbu, poured encomium on the unit for the impact they’ve made so far, while urging medical practitioners to always their best at all times so as to meet the medical needs of Nigerians.
