Following a report by IKORO OKIGWE newspaper about the abandonment of Imo Abadaba Lake located at Ihitte Uboma LGA State governments, the Commissioner of Tourism in Imo, has opined that the present administration of Gov. Hope Uzodimma is not leaving any stone unturned in reviving the Lake project, stressing that it will be a collective support of both government and private individuals who wish to invest at the tourism centre.
Speaking with IKORO OKIGWE during a visit to his office at the Ministry of Tourism, State Secretariat Owerri, last Tuesday.
Egemba, said “Abadaba Lake is one of our tourism sites in the State, and government is working towards reviving it. I once paid a visit to the area with foreign investors to see how government can breath in life to the Lake”.
Also speaking about his achievement in office he emphasized that under his watch as tourism commissioner , he has revived the tourism sector by institutionalizing the State as a tourism hub in Nigeria, adding that he led a solid foundation that will usher in more developmental tourism sites in Imo State.
” Today the tourism industry is now in the international domain, under my watch we motivated people to see Imo State as a tourism destination much more than any other place in Nigeria”.
IKORO OKIGWE had earlier reported about the widespread clamour, especially from Okigwe South region of Imo State, for the development of the historic Abadaba Lake which has been overgrown by weeds for several years.
During our investigation on the site it was revealed that it was the administration of the Late sage, Chief Sam Onunaka Mbakwe, that saw the need for the development of the lake into a national tourism centre. The Imo State government then did not only stop at identifying the economic potentials inherent in Abadaba Lake but went ahead to lay foundation for some buildings that can assist in take-off of the tourism project.
